    Abstract
Violence against women (VAW) is used frequently against opposition forces in times of war, but n has grown increasingly popular, being used by countries not even in obvious war to cause terror and humiliation amongst the political dissenters. Across the world, women‘s rights continue to be violated in both the public and the private spheres. It is has become widely accepted that women are “legitimate” targets for organized political violence, and rape and other forms of violence have become more prevalent. Therefore, women are increasingly vulnerable, not only in times of conflict but also when there is repression.
